Ashanti Shequoiya, also known in the media as Ashanti was born on October 13, the 13th of October, 1980 at Glen Cove New York United States. She is a singer songwriter and actress of the United States. The talent of Ashanti was discovered when she was a teenager. The singer signed with Murder Inc. Records, in 2002. Tina Douglas was her mother as well as Ken Kaide Thomas Douglas before been vocalists. She is Kenashia's younger sister. She is the oldest of them all. Douglas named her Ashanti in honor of Ghana's Ashanti Empire in which women were in charge and held an influence. Douglas wanted Ashanti to be a part of this model.
